REI Construction Services, Inc. was contracted to replace the worn roofing system over an entrance tunnel built into the rock face located in the mountainous region of western South Carolina.

Although the roof areas totaled only 2,500 square feet in size, the project proved to be a difficult project due to the limited access and atypical work area. Safety of both the construction crew and site employees and the protection of the surrounding environment were a major concern to the owner.

The existing roof assembly on the main roof area was removed to the structural concrete decking. The concrete deck was primed and a torch applied two ply modified bitumen roof system was installed. A drainage panel was covered by a concrete paver system. The adjacent wing structures were composed of bare structural concrete. The exposed concrete surfaces were prepared for the installation of a fully adhered felt backed PVC membrane roofing system. New sheet metal flashings and accessories were installed in conjunction with a 20 year warranted system.

The project was successfully completed under budget, on schedule and with no accidents or injuries. The owner was pleased that no environmental issues were encountered during the project duration.
